Karma Mates into Soul Mates

The 3 Venus Mars Conjunctions of 2015

We are currently in the middle of an intense period of relationship energies.  This cycle is going to peak in 2015.  These are very powerful times. The outer planets are ponderously moving forward at glacial speed and sounding a base note that is observable in every area of our lives. The cosmic intention is about waking up. New paradigms are forming. At the heart (no pun intended) of these new paradigms is relationship.

We all know the new age meme, “We are not human beings having a spiritual experience; we are spiritual beings having a human experience”. The bottom line is that we are here to have the human experience.

That experience is through our emotions. The core emotion is love.

Relationship is self-actualization ground zero. This is our interface with the world. By relationship I do not mean joint bank accounts and joint tax returns. Relationship is about feeling a heart and soul connection to someone else.

The song goes, "looking for love in all the wrong places" aptly describes the common human search for love.  Love exists within us, not in others..

“Love is not to be found in someone else, but in ourselves; we simply awaken it. But in order to do that, we need the other person. The universe only makes sense when we have someone to share our feelings with.”--Paulo Coelho

The archetypes of Venus and Mars are threaded throughout human experience.  Their mythology is among the most familiar of the gods and goddesses of the classical ages.

Venus is the oldest known deity.  She was worshiped as the fertility goddesses Ishtar, Inanna, and Astarte as early as Sumerian times. Venus is the personification of everything that is Yin. She is fertility, nature, beauty, love. Venus is about relationship. Astrologically, Venus is magnetism—the energetic dynamic that attracts everything that we need to evolve.

In her inner, reflective nature, Venus as the ruler of Taurus, about essential resources; what has worth and meaning, what do we need to survive? Survival necessitates procreation, and everything implied. Our core resource is our relationship with our self -- our self-worth. Do we love our selves, or not? This is our core magnetic frequency and is the determinant of who and what we will attract.  All of this is relative to karmic necessity. Our individual resonance is tuned to attract exactly what we need to evolve.

In her outer expression, as the ruler of Libra, the magnetic frequency is projected outward into our relationship with everyone else. Venus brings us face to face with ourselves in the mirror of others.

The Greco-Roman image of Mars still permeates our collective psyche. We learn about who we are Through Mars. Mars acts entirely on instinct--without forethought. We come head first into the world, not even knowing is someone will be there to catch us. Mars is the child who touches a hot stove and burns his hand. He learns from feedback. To be so instinctive, he needs absolute freedom and independence.

Mars is known as the lower octave of Pluto.  In Evolutionary Astrology, Pluto is the Soul-the bit of the ocean of Source. Pluto represents the Soul’s deepest, unconscious, desires for security. Mars is the leading edge of evolution. Mars acts on the Soul’s desires, according to Venus values. Mars turns those priorities into actions. Venus and Mars working together is the cutting edge of evolution, relative to karmic necessity. Mars has no thought about anything but himself, and his needs. Along the way he encounters the shadows in his underworld. He becomes whole as the shadows are illuminated.

Here they are….dancing with the stars. These are the patterns formed by the combined orbits of these two celestial lovers and they form their pas-de-deux in the heavens.

The aspect, or phase relationship between Venus and Mars describes how we self-actualize through relationship. The planets do not have to be in aspect. Any planetary pair is always in a phase relationship.

The conjunction is the seed moment of self-actualization.  We are starting a new cycle of learning about who we are.

Michelle Finey says that when the planets square, the relationship crises emerge.  Mars measures by quantity—bigger, and faster is better.  His competitive nature takes over. Venus measures by quality.  Her judgment is based on values, determined by worth and meaning.

She goes on to say that when they are in opposition, Mars is almost always retrograde, slowing down, or standing still. This is Mars passage through the Underworld.  His vulnerability is then revealed to Venus. In opposition, his light is bright. The cycle is re-energized; the magnetic attraction increases and draws the lovers towards one another again.

According the Jeffrey Wolf Green, we have been with 90% of the people in our lives before. Relationships start off on a high note. When the honeymoon is over, the issues emerge and it gets hard. At that point, many relationships end. These are the “squares”.  The square aspect is crisis, but the intention is resolution, not conflict. The necessity is to acknowledge that there is a deeper reason for being together, and then working to find out what that deeper reason is, individually, and as a couple.

We go around and around, lifetime after lifetime, caught in a web that we can’t see. Our love is expressed conditionally--I will love you “if”… We habitually repeat the story over and over again, “that you did this to me”,  and “I didn’t do this for you, … etcetera. This is the karma mate pattern. Marianne Williamson says that relationship is the container for love. Right now, Neptune in Pisces working to dissolve everything that stands between love and us. Forgiveness and compassion awakens love. Love creates the safe space for each partner to heal and to grow. The ideal relationship is not about someone who completes us. The ideal relationship is the one is which each partner has the space to complete himself or herself.

"A soul mate is an ongoing connection with another individual that the soul picks up again in various times and places over lifetimes. We are attracted to another person at a soul level not because that person is our unique complement, but because by being with that individual, we are somehow provided with an impetus to become whole ourselves."

--Edgar Cayce

This is the true definition of Soul Mates - two souls who have a contract to grow together spiritually.

Why are we talking about this now? It’s because this is a time of major evolutionary transformation. Venus and Mars join together roughly once every 2 years. Approximately every 18 years, Venus and Mars have conjoined 3 times within 9 months. The 9 months, for whatever reason, synchronistically coincides with the human gestation period. 2015 is one of those years. There will be three celestial kisses next year on:

Venus will be retrograde from July 25th to September 6th. The retrograde cycle of a planet is expressed with “RE” words. Venus is about values and priorities, where we find meaning and worth. When Venus is retrograde we re-examine our values and priorities, where we are searching for meaning. All relationships come under the magnifying glass. Are our essential needs being met? What do we need to survive?  What do we need to thrive? At the time of the middle conjunction, Venus will be moving very slowly, just about to stand still. The retrograde energies will be at their peak.

February 22      1° 47’ Aries

September 1   14° 55’ Leo

November 3    24° 11’ Virgo

In this chart the Sun in Virgo, relative to Mercury conjunct the North Node in Libra, conjuncts Jupiter, and is exactly opposite Neptune Rx in Pisces, and trines Pluto Rx in Capricorn. The Moon in Aries conjuncts Uranus Rx and asteroid Vesta Rx. The wounds of past loves lost stirs our need to reconnect and bond with the inner life current. This stellium forms a passion-filled Fire Grand Trine with Venus-Mars in Leo and Pallas Athene in Sagittarius, and also squares Pluto, requiring our attention on both our karmic and evolutionary intentions.

So, what does all this mean for us?

This year our relationships will go through an evolutionary transformation in 3 stages. In February we will be confronted with issues in our relationships where there is a need to balance our needs and the the needs of others.  If there is a disproportionate equanimity of our partnerships, it will come to light.  In September as Venus retrogrades we will step back and take a hard look at how we are expressing ourselves in the arena of relationship. What and who are we projecting?  In November we will focus on where we can heal and improve our relationships.

There is great potential to forgive our faults and imperfections, and to love ourselves and others unconditionally.  This is the time to find the courage to open an honest and authentic dialog about unresolved relationship issues.  This is a time of radical individuation. We must step out of our comfort zones. In addition, the lunar nodes--the evolutionary axis, are nearing the end of their backward journey through Aries-Libra, where they have been in Aries and Libra since February 2014, and will remain until November of next year. This Venus Mars event is the finale of almost 2 years of intense relationship energy. This will impact us for years to come.

Venus and Mars are the ground zero of our lives. Relationship is the theater of self. This is where we connect with others and through them the world, in order to create ourselves.  This is where the “rubber meets the road.” James Hillman calls this growing down.  We grow down into our bodies and then outward through our connection to the world. All of the outer planet dynamics filter through this point. This is the playing field. This is where the action is.

There is a great potential right now to make different, more conscious choices.  This series of 3 conjunctions is going to be a powerhouse event. The potential of all this energy is to facilitate soul growth, to self-actualize according to new priorities, to awaken. The veil is lifted and we can connect with the love, forgiveness, and compassion within us. We can surrender to unconditional love.  Unless we form a bond of authenticity and self-honesty with our self, we cannot be in an authentic relationship.  The relationship itself cannot awaken if the individuals themselves are not awake.

“Why do we have to listen to our hearts?" the boy asked.

"Because, wherever your heart is, that is where you will find your treasure.”
